The club has always had a no late seating policy for tournament play. This has become even more important in the last few weeks since games are now at seating capacity. Those who arrive late have a good chance of not being able to play.

Those who would like to play a fun and friendly game of Texas Hold ‘Em for a $5 buy-in should make plans to play with the Tournament Poker Club on Saturday, Oct. 18, in Clubhouse 6. Regular tournaments are held on the first three Saturdays of every month and start at 10 a.m. with coffee/ treats and registration. Cards are in the air at 10:30.

On Oct. 6 the club had a great turnout for the first game of October. As usual, there was a lot of excitement and some disappointment, but as the saying goes: “That’s poker!”

Every week there are special prizes for the highest hands. The week’s high hand winners were Steve Edrich (6-6-6-6-K), Frank Sablan (A-A-A-K-K) and Terry Watson (J-J-J-K-K). Guta Basner won a prize for playing and winning with the promo hand of 2-9.

As the winners of their original table, the final table players were Guta Basner, first place; Wendy Wu, second; Robert Stefun, third; Frank Sablan, fourth; Kathy Seagroves, fifth; Mike Gass, sixth; Frank DePalma, seventh; and Terry Watson, eighth. Play continued at the final table until Basner and Wu were heads up. The final hand of the match was the battle of the aces. Basner was holding A-9 and Wu had A-Q. The flop came 9-6-7. Basner had a pair of nines with her ace, Wu went all-in with her A-Q and was called by Basner. The turn (6) and river (7) were no help to Wu, and Basner won the match with A-9-9-6-7.

Basner has lived in Leisure World for 11 years and has been a member of the club for eight years. This was her 13th final table win. Basner is the president of the club and plays in several smaller poker games every week. Besides poker, she plays pickleball and is in the Billiards Club. She also volunteers at an animal rescue. In her spare time, she enjoys doing puzzles and playing Sudoku.

The club congratulates all the winners.
