Eric Dutra, deputy executive director of the Orange County Republican Party, provided an informative discussion on why to vote no on Proposition 50 at the Oct. 15 meeting for the America First Republican Club.

The club deployed “NO on 50” yard signs during the week as ballots were being delivered to voters. Club members also began canvassing door-to-door sharing literature that explains how Prop. 50 takes redistricting power away from the independent Citizen’s Redistricting Commission and puts it solely in the hands of a few politicians. The current congressional district lines were the product of months of public input by over 35,000 Californians with all political parties represented. Prop 50 will override the public process and gerrymandering districts.

Club members are encouraged to have respectful discussions with all canvassers and share with them reasons why to vote no on Prop. 50. Courteous and polite discussions among persons with different political points of view are important now more than ever, especially after the recent assassination of Turning Point USA founder Charlie Kirk when he was exercising his constitutional right to freedom of speech. Discussions with persons with other points of view should not only be courteous and polite but thoughtful, gracious, civil, and considerate.

Club members look forward to those kinds of discussions with anyone who stops by the information booth on Monday, Wednesday and Friday throughout October and Nov. 1, 3 and 4 outside Clubhouse 6 from 9-11 a.m. This time coincides with the Golden Age Foundation’s coffee hospitality hours. Members hosting the booth will provide information about Prop. 50 and collect ballots for those who choose not to use the U.S. Mail or yellow ballot drop box near the Amphitheater. The ballots will be hand carried to the Registrar of Voters in Santa Ana by a Club officer. The nearest Seal Beach in-person vote center will be open Nov. 1-4 at Fire Station 48, 3131 North Gate Road near Seal Beach Boulevard.
