Setting It Straight

An article in last week’s paper incorrectly stated that Terry Otte, who formed the band Abilene, died early this year. His date of death was Nov. 24, 2024. The story also omitted past band members, including Dutch Van Kerckhoven, Abilene’s original bassist who died Jan. 15, 2019; and Mike Simpson and Jim Long. Simpson, who succeeded bass player Harry Reichman, is a Leisure World resident singer, guitarist and bassist now playing with Easy Rider and Harvest Moon. Jim Long, a guitarist, keyboardist, vocalist, arranger and audio technician, joined Abilene in 2021 and died June 5, 2025.
