Tom Owen scores a hole-in-one on hole No. 1
GUYS AND GALS TOURNAMENT
A warm, humid morning greeted the golfers in the Guys and Gals Tournament on Sept. 17. Thirty teams of one man and one woman teed off starting at 7:30 a.m. at the Turtle Lake Golf Course. Each team competed for best net scores (gross score minus handicap), as well as four circle holes (shots within a 5-foot radius rewarded), and two closest to the pin challenges.
Twenty-two of the 30 teams scored net at or below par, and there were five circle hole winners—a near record low — however, 47 birdies were logged. Average net scores for all teams was 52.6 or just slightly more than 1 under par—a bit higher than last month’s 51.9. Additionally, Tom Owens had a hole-in-one on the very first hole he played.
Closest to the pin for the men on the par 3 eighth hole was Ralph Koizumi, and on the 17th it was Steve Walker; for the women it was Sang An and Stella Yoon. Low net score for the round was by Bruce Bowles and Linda Herman, with James Farr and Sandy Derouin at 6 under 48, followed by three teams at 5 under 49. The lowest gross score was carded by Pat Paternoster and Nancy Smith at 2 under 52, followed by two other teams at 53.
A flight winners (handicaps of 0-4): Bowles and Herman, first place; Paternoster and Smith, second; Bob and Janice Turner, and Mike Mayfield and Nancy Tye, third; Dave LaCascia and Veronica Chang, Koizumi and Ann Tran, and Ron Steele and Clara Suh, fourth.
B flight winners (handicaps of 5-8): Farr and Derouin, first place; Walker and Susie Kim, and Gene Archambault and Stella Yoon, second; Ownes and Alison Kim, third; Alan Sewell and Lynn Baidack, and Hyon Shin and Sang An, fourth.
C flight winners (handicaps of 9-18): James and Grace Choi, and Rod Osgood and Laura Garcia, first place; Jon Russell and Patty Littrell, second; Won and Jane Song, Lee Broadbent and Joann Lim, Steve and Connie Kang, and John Rudosky and Jane Kors, third.
A shotgun/scramble for both the men’s and women’s club members is being planned for Oct. 29. A slightly different tournament is being planned for Oct. 22 for men’s club members. This will be followed immediately by a short business meeting of the men’s club.
The next Guys and Gals tournament will be on Oct. 15 and every third and fifth Wednesday if there is one. The men’s tournament is played the second and fourth Wednesday of each month. Those who had planned to play in any tournament and cannot should contact Scott Tuchfarber at 909-684-0426, or Dave LaCascia at 801-674-5975 as soon as possible. Arrive 10-15 minutes prior to scheduled tee time and be ready to play.
