How to Protect Your Car from Burglary
GRF Security has received reports of four car break-ins in the last couple of weeks. In some cases, people left their vehicles unlocked and in one case, a passenger window was smashed to gain entrance. Nothing of value was reported stolen. But since there have been a spate of theft reports, Security is advising residents to be especially careful and report suspicious activity by calling 562-594-4754.
Here are some more tips on how to safeguard your property: Lock up completely. Always lock your doors and close all windows and sunroofs, even if you are just stepping away for a moment or are parked in front of your unit or inside your carport. Secure your keys. Never leave your keys or key fob inside the car or running unattended, especially when warming it up.
Take or hide your valuables. A visible purse, phone, or even loose change can attract thieves. Put valuable items in the trunk before you arrive at your destination or take them with you.
Protect against “relay attacks.” For vehicles with keyless entry, thieves can use devices to intercept your key fob’s signal. Store your key fob in a signal-blocking pouch or a metal box to prevent this.
Keep your documents secure. Do not leave your vehicle’s title, registration, or other personal information in your glove compartment. This makes it easier for thieves to sell your stolen car or commit identity fraud.
