Orthopedic Surgeon Shahryar Ahmadi, MD, FRCSC, will give a presentation titled “The Shoulder on the Mend: From ‘Ouch’ to ‘Ahhh’”on Friday, Sept. 19, in Clubhouse 3, Room 2, at 10 a.m.

Ahmadi is a board-certified orthopedic surgeon with Memorial Orthopedic Surgical Group in Long Beach who specializes in shoulders and elbows. Shoulder pain is common— impacting nearly one in four seniors—with women slightly more impacted than men. While sport injuries play a role, many times symptoms develop gradually and go unreported, limiting mobility and quality of life. This presentation will help residents understand what’s behind the pain, explore treatment options and discover the latest advancements in shoulder joint care.

He received his medical degree from Tehran University of Medical Sciences and residency in orthopaedic surgery at the University of Toronto Medical School. Ahmadi then completed his fellowship in shoulder and elbow surgery at Mayo Clinic in Rochester, Minnesota. He is board-certified by the American Board of Orthopaedic Surgeons and the Canadian Board of Orthopaedic Surgery.

His research focuses on high-energy proximal humerus fractures in geriatrics, muscle fatty degeneration with his work published in multiple peer-reviewed journals. He is a member of the American Shoulder & Elbow Surgeons, American Academy of Orthopaedic Surgeons and a fellow of the Royal College of Surgeons of Canada.
