Ham Radio FAQs
Due to the recent positive response from residents requesting more information on ham radios, the Amateur Radio Club has made a second list of frequently asked questions: What do I need to know about the first ham radio test? The technician license exam covers basic regulations, operating practices and electronics theory, Morse code is not required for this license. In order to obtain this entry-class license, a person needs to get at least 26 out of 35 questions correct on a multiple choice exam.
How much does the test cost? There is a $35 application fee for new license candidates and an exam fee, which is typically $15 or less.
Can people who aren’t technical pass the test? People don’t have to be a genius to get a ham radio license. Before they can get on the air, a person needs to be licensed and know the rules to operate. There are many study materials that will make preparation easy if a person puts in the time to study.
Is ham radio equipment expensive?
A portable handheld radio can run as little as $25 to get started and be prepared for the next emergency to stay informed and help others.
