LW Pool Club fall season kicks off this month
The LW Pool Club recently held its second annual summer picnic. It was an unusually warm day, but there was a perfect mix of sun, great food, music, canopies and, of course, the much anticipated cornhole tournament. This year’s winners were Jane Westall and John Barth.
Special recognition for the success of the picnic goes to Rosie and Steve Edrich, Barry Brideau, Connie Terry, Brian Burke, Milly Larsen and newly appointed pool board member Connie Adkins. Paul Shellenberger also contributed with set-up and use of his canopies.
After week eight of the summer Straight Pool league, there are no longer any undefeated players. Dave Silva entered the week as the only player without a loss, but Steve Edrich won the battle for first place, 30-25. Gary Snow also moved into a tie for first with a win over Ruffy Ramos, 30-14.
In the monthly pool tournament held Aug. 23, a form of nine ball, 3-6-9, was played. There were 12 two-person teams, with partners alternating shots. The three ball counted as one point, the six ball two points, and the nine ball scored three points.
After three rounds, Ren Villenueva and Patrick Conlon led with 13 points. After six rounds, Rusty Aquino and Ray Friedrichsen took the lead by making the 3, 6 and 9 in both the fifth and sixth rounds, for a total of 26 points. Aquino and Friedrichsen locked up first place in the seventh and final round by making the 6 and 9 balls for a total of 31 points.
Steve Edrich and Frank Sablan tied with Villenueva and Conlon at 25 points each. Edrich and Sablan won the playoff to take second place.
The club board picked the teams for the fall pool league. There are six teams in the American league, which began Sept. 8, and six additional teams that began Sept. 10. Each team has an A, B and C level player. Each match will be 13 points and each player plays seven games. Both eight ball and nine ball singles and doubles will test players on their skills.
