Redeemer Lutheran and St. Theodore
“God’s Work, Our Hands” the Evangelical Lutheran Church in America’s annual day of service program will be held Sunday, Sept. 7, from 1-3 p.m. LW’s Redeemer Lutheran Church will collect food from the community in front of the church at 13564 St. Andrews Drive, across from the HCC. People are encouraged to donate canned or boxed food to the church. People do not have to be a member of the church to participate.
On Sunday, Sept. 7, the congregations of Redeemer Lutheran Church and St. Theodore of Canterbury Episcopal Church will celebrate the 13th Sunday after Pentecost. Rev. Murray D. Finck will preside over the 10:30 a.m. Holy Communion service that meets at 13564 St. Andrews Drive.
The church choir will sing at this week’s service. All singers are welcome to join the choir each Sunday for choir practice at 9:15 a.m.
Fellowship will continue after service in the Fellowship Hall with coffee, tea, cookies and snacks.
The congregations will welcome new members on Sept. 21. Those who are interested in formally joining the congregation should see Rev. Finck or fill out the paperwork on the tables in the back of the Sanctuary.
The midweek Bible study group continues its study on women in the Bible every Wednesday in the Fellowship Hall from noon-1:15 p.m. A study guide will be distributed. All are welcome to join and bring a lunch. There are drinks available and usually some baked goods for a small dessert at the meeting. Rev. Finck will lead the discussion.
The Gospel lesson for this week is from Luke 14:25-33. Jesus again warns his disciples that the path to follow him is not an easy one. Believers are called to give up family and friends if they are preventing them from following God. Believers are told to pick up their crosses and carry them and give up worldly possessions.
Christians are ultimately called through baptism to give up the things and people who distract from actually fulfilling their promise to God.
