Redeemer Lutheran and St. Theodore
On Sunday, Aug. 31, the congregations of Redeemer Lutheran Church and St. Theodore of Canterbury Episcopal Church will celebrate the 12th Sunday after Pentecost. Rev. Murray D. Finck will preside over the Holy Communion service that meets at 10:30 a.m. at 13564 St. Andrews Drive.
Fellowship will continue after service in the Fellowship Hall with coffee, tea, cookies and snacks. The congregations will also celebrate those with August birthdays.
The congregations will welcome new members in September. Those who are interested in joining the congregation should see Rev. Finck or fill out the paperwork on the tables in the back of the sanctuary.
Choir practice will resume on Sunday, Aug. 31, at 9:15 a.m. All singers are welcome join.
“God’s Work, Our Hands” is the annual day of service program on Sunday, Sept. 7, from 1-3 p.m.
The group will collect food from the community in front of the church. People are welcome to bring some canned or boxed food to the church on day. All are welcome to donate items.
The Midweek Bible Study is held on Wednesdays in the Fellowship Hall from noon-1:15 p.m. Rev. Finck leads the discussion. A study guide will be distributed.
This is a great way to meet members and friends and to share an understanding of the faith and the Holy Scriptures. People are welcome to bring their lunch to the study.
The Gospel lesson for Aug. 31 is from Luke 14:1, 7-14. Jesus comments on honor, leading to the question of how to value people. Jesussaystobehumble to be honored by God. Jesus also says to include those not able to repay their debt. Jesus reminds people that all are welcome at his table. Jesus says that the believer’s vocation is to bring Jesus to everyone and welcome all.
