Photo Arts Club
At the Aug. 14 meeting, President Regine Schumacher was delighted to have heard that the club’s project in conjunction with the Creative Writers Club was such a success. Several members of the Photo Arts Club submitted photos to the Creative Writers Club and 10 photos were chosen to serve as inspiration for a story or poem.
On July 25, the Creative Writers Club invited the photographers to an ice cream social. This gave these creative individuals the opportunity to meet each other in person and exchange comments. Stories and poems were read and there was good interaction between the participants.
At the last meeting, the club provided updated assignment list until the end of next year. Members and guests were urged to help themselves to a copy.
The assignment was to photograph trees, and there were many interesting submissions. Ziggy Romano pointed out that the Rule of Thirds could be applied to make the photo more interesting, adding that it is not necessary to depict the entire tree. An interesting branch or part of the tree could be quite fascinating. The tree or its branches do not need to be the main subject. A bird or animal resting on a branch could be more interesting.
In many cases, it would be appropriate to add a person or an identifying object to serve as a size comparison. A row of trees would be a good example of leading lines and a photo of a Bonsai is a compelling subject.
The Photo Arts Club will meet Sept. 11 at 1:30 p.m. in Clubhouse 3, Room 9. Photographers should bring their iPhone/Android and/or camera.
The assignment for September is sports. Photographers should send their best three photos to benbenjamins@hotmail.com by Sept. 8. People can also bring photos of their choice to be displayed and commented on. Individuals with technical or other questions will be paired with someone who can help them for individual discussion after the meeting.
