Members will visit Orange Family History Library today

LW GENEALOGY CLUB

There will be no general membership meeting in August; monthly meetings will resume in September. The Genealogy Library will be open its usual hours: Monday-Friday from 1-4 p.m.; Saturday from 11 a.m.-2 p.m.; closed Sunday.

A club outing is planned for the Orange Family History Library today, Aug. 14. There is a signup sheet in the library. Rides are available. Those carpooling should meet in the parking lot between clubhouses 3 and 4 by 9:30 a.m.

Theme Thursdays are held from 1:30-2 p.m. in the Genealogy Library. There will be no Theme Thursday today, Aug. 14.

The theme for Aug. 21 is “Colonial Days.” All are welcome to bring colonial items and pictures for a show and tell. The club is still seeking a volunteer to give a presentation on Aug. 28.

To volunteer for the library, contact 714-390-4213 or email lisnhow@gmail.com. People willing to help out with library hours or be a substitute are encouraged to reach out. The club is in desperate need of backups.

Part of being part of the Genealogy Club is learning more about genealogical terms and situations. Pedigree collapse refers to the situation where a person has the same ancestor in multiple places within their family tree, often due to cousin marriages. Endogamy, on the other hand, is a broader term describing the practice of marrying within a specific population or group for extended periods, often for cultural, religious or geographic reasons. —Mary Romero
