Explore Korean music and culture at Amphitheater on Aug. 16
ANNUAL SHOWCASE
All are invited to join a night of Korean culture, dance, music and entertainment on Saturday, Aug. 16, at 7:30 p.m. at the Amphitheater.
Leisure World’s annual Korean Night, hosted by the Korean American Association (KAA), is a 90-minute performance of the various talents of KAA members.
Korean Night will feature traditional Samulnori, a Korean percussion music genre performed with four instruments. The group of musicians have learned both traditional and modern Korean songs.
For the first time this year, the group will perform a rock version of the Korean National Anthem. Leader Chris Kim and Instructor Joonyoung Yeo have brought a fresh, youthful culture to the club.
The event will also feature special performances by the Korean Drum Club, Joy Walking and Stretching Club, Gloria Auto Harp, Fun Line Dance Club, LW Saxophone Club, Korean Traditional Dance, LW Women’s Sing Along, and the 70-member Korean American Choir which will showcase the best of their talents.
A surprise finale performance will invite residents to sing along. All, including friends and family members, are welcome to enjoy the performance in the open-air Amphitheater. Attendees are encouraged to bring a blanket or coat to accommodate the cool summer evening weather.
The purpose of the KAA is to promote friendship among members, exchange information and enjoy cultural activities together, uphold high moral standards and improve the quality of life through service to the community.
The nonprofit was founded in 2016, taking the place of the Korean American Community club, which disbanded in 2015.
Generous event sponsors will greet attendees at the Amphitheater entrances. All are encouraged to interact with them and learn more about their services. For more information, text Anna Derby at 562-301-5339, or Steve Chung at 714-713-0167.
