LW MEN'S GOLF CLUB

Sixty-two golfers teed off on an overcast and humid July 23 morning at the 1,680yard par 54 Turtle Lake Golf Course for the LW Men’s Golf Club’s second July tournament. Each man competed for best net scores (gross score minus handicap), plus four circle holes (shots within a 5-foot radius rewarded), and two closest to the pin challenges.

The course was in great condition and the typical morning dampness was absent. To add some complexity to the round, the men played from the shorter red tees on the front nine, and then the blue tees on the back. Even so, only 27 of the 62 men scored net at or under par. There were 74 birdies and surprisingly only five circle holes. Additionally, there were two holes-in-one by Ron Jackson on No. 6 and Dong On Kim on No. 2.

Closest to the pin on No. 8 was Bob Turner at 9 inches, and on No. 17 Young Lee was closest at 2 feet 5 inches. Low net score for the round was a three-way tie with Dave LaCascia, Reuban Garcia, and Bill Zurn at 7 under 47. Low gross for the tournament was Bill Lyons at 6 under 48, then LaCascia at 3 under 51, followed by Turner and Seung Lee at 1 under 53.

The average net scores for all players was 56.1 strokes or slightly more than 2 over par.

A flight winners (handicaps of 0-5): LaCascia, first place; Seung Lee and Lyons, second; Turner, third; Pat Paternoster, Ralph Koizumi, John Kolthoff and Dennis Mc-Monigle, fourth; Bob Johnston, Mike Mayfield, Bob Barnum and Mark Rice, fifth.

B flight winners (handicaps of 6-10): Walter Kim, first place; Richard Yokomi, Steve Kang, Young Lee and Jun Um, second; Ron Jackson and Terry Thrift, third; Hyon Shin, fourth; Joon Sup Yoon and Andrew Kim, fifth.

C flight winners (handicaps of 11-18): Garcia and Zurn, first place; Noe Alcaraz, second; Mike Fennessy, third; Scott Tuchfarber, fourth; Mark Tal and Marv Jones, fifth; James Farr and Paul Shellenberger, sixth; Byron Schweitzer, seventh; Daniel Mahoney and James Choi, eighth.

The next men’s tournaments are on Aug. 13 and Aug. 27. The Guys and Gals tournament will be on Aug. 20.

Players who are scheduled or plan to play in any tournament and cannot must contact Scott Tuchfarber at 909-684-0426, or Dave LaCascia at 801-674-5975 as soon possible.
