Wa-Rite is a female-only club that meets on Friday mornings from 9-10 in Clubhouse 3, Room 1. Weigh-ins are from 8-8:45. Dues are $10 a year, plus 10 cents upon signing in. LW ID cards must be shown. Women who want support on their weight-loss journey and to meet like-minded people are welcome to stop by no later than 8:45 to weigh-in and complete the registration paperwork.

At the club’s business meeting on July 11, Darleen Gardner announced that the club members lost 24 pounds for the week. Shirley LeBrecque was named the biggest loser with a 5-pound loss by cutting her portions in a half and exercising. Marianne Barlow earned her doctorate degree in weight loss, which means she has stayed within her goal weight, plus minus 3 pounds, for the past three years. Barlow, who has a sweet tooth, attributes her success to limiting the amount of food she eats.

The members who lost most of the weight in the past month were Joy Nasser, 8 pounds; Julie Campbell, 6 pounds; and Lisa Brass, 5 pounds. Nasser was not only the queen of the month, but also the only member who attended every week with no weight gain. Nasser said she cut out ice cream and cookies and ate smaller portions.

Julie Campbell, Bea Quintana, Mary Kay Sherman and Marshia Larson reached their short-term goals. Shirlene Bradrick was honored for holding a doctorate degree in weight loss for almost a year. She said that some days are easier than others.

The weekly food for thought was: “You didn’t gain the weight in one day, so be very patient with yourself on a weight loss journey.”
