Learn about the rising trend of homeless seniors on July 28

Melinda Forstey, president and CEO of San Diego’s Serving Seniors, will speak at the Leisure World Cares Fund’s meeting on Monday, July 28, at 1 p.m. in Clubhouse 3, Room 9.

Serving Seniors conducted a “Needs Assessment” focused on older adults at-risk of or currently experiencing homelessness. The result is a report titled, “Senior Homelessness: A Needs Assessment.” Forstey will summarize the assessment’s key findings and recommendations to combat homelessness among older adults in San Diego. One of the key recommendations is to establish a flat-rate monthly rent subsidy paid directly to landlords. That program is very similar to the HOA fee subsidy program being introduced by the Leisure World Cares Fund. Forstey’s presentation and on the report and fund is relevant to the similar efforts in Leisure World.
