LW ANNIVERSARY

Jay and Connie Young were married 72 years ago on July 25, 1953, and will celebrate with friends and family. When Jay and Connie were at the University of Redlands, Jay was an All-League basketball player and Connie was a song leader. After graduating, Jay was drafted into the Army during the Korean conflict and Connie stayed to finish college and get a provisional teaching credential while raising their first child while Jay was in the service.

Connie finished college at Long Beach State and Jay received his masters degree there in 1957. Connie taught the primary grades for 30 years. Jay taught school at Warren High School in Downey for 35 years and coached the varsity basketball for 30 of those years.

They moved to Leisure World in January 2010. Connie is active in PEO and musical concerts. Jay has been the vice president of the Art League. Both are life masters in bridge and continue playing. They have three children and six grandchildren. They have traveled to 63 countries and have taken their three motor homes across the country three times with their children.

They will be taking a cruise to Alaska with their family to celebrate their anniversary and Jay’s 94th birthday.
