Guys and Gals Tournament Results

Thirty teams of one man and one woman teed off at the 1,680-yard par 54 Turtle Lake Golf Course on July 16 for the Guys and Gals Tournament. Each team competed for best net scores, plus four circle hole and two closest to the pin challenges.

After a few holes, the overcast weather thinned, allowing 23 of the 30 teams to score net at or below par. There were seven circle hole winners, and 46 birdies.

Tournament statistics: Overall average gross score for all 30 teams was 60.1, slightly more than six strokes over par. Average net scores for all teams was 52.9 or just over one stroke under par.

Closest to the pin for the men on both the par 3 eighth and 17th holes was Pat Paternoster; for the women it was Neva Senske and Janell Hiebert. Low net score for the round was Pat Paternoster and Nancy Smith, and John Rudosky and Stella Yoon at 6 under par 48, followed by Fujio Norihiro and Keiko Sekino, and Bill Zurn and Neva Senske at 5 under 49. Two teams tied for third lowest at 4 under 50. Bill Lyons and Sophia Kim had low gross at 3 under 51.

A flight winners (handicaps of 0-5): Paternoster and Smith, first place; Norihiro and Sekino, second; Seon Kim and Sang An, and Lyons and Kim third; Mike Mayfield and Nancy Tye, John Kolthoff and Janell Hiebelt, Dennis McMonigle and Bert Thompson, and Bob and Janice Turner, fourth.

B flight winners (handicaps of 6-9): Rudosky and Yoon, first place; Joon Sup Yoon and Young Sil Yoon, and Hyon Shin and Sang An, second; Scott Tuchfarber and Pam Krug, and Steve Walker and Susie Kim, third.

C flight winners (handicaps of 10-18): Zurn and Senske, first place; Lee Broadbent and Joann Lim, and Kevin and Carmen Daeley, second; James Choi and Grace Choi, and James Farr and Nina DeRosa, third.

The next Guys and Gals Tournament will be on Aug. 20, then every third and fifth Wednesday if there is one. The men’s tournament is played every second and fourth Wednesday of each month.
