Those who would like to play a fun and friendly game of Texas Hold ‘Em for a $5 buy-in should make plans to join the Tournament Poker Club at its tournament on Saturday, July 19. Regular tournaments are held the first three Saturdays of every month in the lobby of Clubhouse 6, with registration beginning at 10 a.m., along with treats and coffee. Cards are in the air at 10:30. There is no late seating.

On July 5, the club had a great turnout for the first game of the month. Each week, big hands bring special prizes. This week, the high hand winners were Treve Carnes (K-K-KK- 10) and Doug Wolfe (J-J-JJ- 8). By playing and winning the promo hand of 9-3, Franca Yeske won a prize.

As the winners of their original tables, the final table players were: Glenn Evenson, first place; Carol Ostergaard, second; Martha Destra, third; Margo Wheeler, fourth; Doug Wolfe, fifth; Guta Basner, sixth; and Bob Knoier, seventh. About 60 players started the game and play continued until the final table where Evenson and Ostergaard were heads up. In the last hand of the match, Evenson was holding 7-4 and Ostergaard had A-10. The flop came 9-8-7 and Ostergaard went all-in. The turn was an 8—no help to either player; and the river was a 4, giving Evenson two pair and the winning hand.

Evenson has lived in Leisure World and been a member of the club for nine years. This was his fourth final table win at a regular tournament. In addition to Tournament Poker, Evenson is a member of the billiards, pickleball, and chess clubs. In addition to his clubs, Evenson also likes traveling to new places and getting around Leisure World on his bike or scooter.
