LW Men’s Golf Club
A sunny and humid morning welcomed the players in the LW Men’s Golf Club tournament on July 9. Fifty-seven golfers teed off at 7:30 a.m. at the 1,680-yard par 54 Turtle Lake Golf Course.
Each man competed for best net scores (gross score minus handicap), plus four circle holes (shots within a 5-foot radius rewarded), and two closest to the pin challenges.
The course was in great condition. Even so, only 23 of the 57 men scored net at or under par.
There were 59 birdies plus nine circle holes.
Closest to the pin on No. 8 was Bob Johnston at 1 foot, and on No. 17 Walt Kim was closest at 3 feet 8 inches. Low net score for the round was by Mark Tal at 8 under 46, followed by Byron Schweitzer at 48, and 2 others at 49. Low gross for the tournament was Seon Kim at 3 under 51, then Bob Barnum at 52, followed by John Kolthoff at 53. Average net scores by for all players is 54.86 strokes or not quite two strokes over par.
A flight winners (handicaps of 0-5): Seon Kim, first place; Kolthoff, second; Barnum, third; Jae Choi, Johnston and Bruce Bowles, fourth; Pat Paternoster and Dave LaCascia, fifth; Mike Mayfield, and Dong On Kim, sixth.
B flight winners (handicaps of 6-10): Bud Young and Dennis McMonigle, first place; Jun Um, second; Richard Yokomi, Tom Ebert and Kyo M. Soh, third; James Choi, Dale Williamson, Young Lee, Jack Haskins and Trai Nguyuen, fourth.
C flight winners (handicaps
of 11-18): Tal, first place; Schweitzer, second; Ben Benjamins, third; Noe Alcaraz—voted most improved golfer—Marv Jones and Dennis Jensen, fourth; Won G. Park, fifth; James Farr, sixth. As there is a fifth Wednesday in the month, a scramble tournament has been scheduled and will be played on July 30. (See page 10.) A barbecue will follow in the Clubhouse 1 picnic area. The next men’s tournament will be on July 23.
