Clay Fischer eagles the third hole at Meadowlark
LW MEN'S GOLF LEAGUE
Twelve golfers of the Leisure World Men’s Golf League and guest Scott Pickett competed at the 5,800-yard par 71 Meadowlark Golf Course in Huntington Beach on July 7. The weather was briefly overcast with a calm breeze but turned sunny and warmed up quickly.
As temperatures increased, the wind rose, and several backnine holes were head-on into the wind. This challenged everyone to adjust their aiming points and hopefully select the right club for approach shots.
The course continues to be in good condition but still suffers from the rainstorms from a few years ago. Only five of the 12 players shot at or below net par. There was a rare eagle by Clay Fischer on No. 3, and five birdies—two by Jae Choi, and one each by each by Clay Fischer, Dave LaCascia and Sam Choi.
Jim Goltra was closest to the pin on the 140-yard par 3—all over water—seventh hole, and Sam Choi was closest on the 150-yard par 3 16th hole—dead into the wind. Gary Stivers and LaCascia tied for fewest putts in the A flight, and Tom Ross had fewest in B.
A flight winners (net score: gross minus handicap): Sam Choi and Stivers, 5 under 66, first place; Larry Hillhouse, 1 under 70, second; Fischer, even par 71, third; Jae Choi, fourth; LaCascia, Goltra, Fujio Norihiro and Jeff Perkins, fifth.
B flight winners: Ross, 6 under 65, first place; Randy Massaro, 3 under 68, second; Bob Munn, third.
