America First Republican Club members Anne Calvo and Hope Horning were recognized on June 25 at a reception by Orange County Supervisor Janet Nguyen as a “Woman of Distinction 2025 for Orange County’s First District.” They were nominated for their remarkable leadership and impact in shaping the community as inspiring women who serve and uplift others, embodying resilience, compassion and excellence. Calvo was also recently appointed by Supervisor Nguyen to the Orange County Older Adults Advisory Commission.

The club’s next meeting is on Wednesday, July 16, in Clubhouse 3, Room 2, with social time at 4:30 p.m. and the meeting at 5. Members are asked to bring their favorite snacks to share, and prospective members are always welcome. The club’s mission is to educate, engage, and activate members in their duty as citizens, including working to elect like-minded candidates to local, state and federal offices.

The club’s information booth will be set up on Monday, July 14, outside Clubhouse 6 from 9-11 a.m. Club members host the booth and informally chat about current events and issues of concern.

At the club’s annual meeting in June, the revised bylaws were again reviewed and unanimously approved after the initial presentation in May. Changes were mostly grammatical with nothing substantive. The following members were elected to the board of directors: Darlene Boyce, Calvo, Donald and Hope Horning, Susan Kelleghan, and Paula and Vince LaGrange. Officer nominations were made with unanimous approval as follows: President Hope Horning; Vice President Paula LaGrange; Secretary Susan Kelleghan and Treasurer Vince LaGrange.
