First Christian Church

First Christian Church of Leisure World teaches from God’s word, the Holy Bible, most often verse by verse. It is a friendly church that welcomes all visitors to join in worship and explore God’s word together, “that we may be mutually encouraged by each other’s faith, both yours and mine,” Romans 1:12.

Pastor’s Message

The apostle Paul addressed his letter to all who are beloved of God in Rome, called as saints. This letter to the Romans clearly addressed the issue of being justified in the sight of a righteous God as being by faith in his son, Jesus Christ, and not by human efforts or by obedience to the law; both Jews and Gentiles included.

Paul used two Old Testament heavy weights: Abraham, considered to be the father of the Israelites, and King David, considered to be Israelites’ greatest king.

In Romans 4:9-12, Paul writes about the issues of circumcision, that physical act that God used as a sign of the covenant God made with his chosen people. The Jews felt that the physical act somehow justified them before their God. Paul addressed this by asking the question, “Does this blessedness then come upon the circumcised only, or upon the uncircumcised also?”

Paul, a circumcised Jewish man, was converted by Jesus Christ himself and reminds the church of Rome that Abraham was accounted as righteous before he was circumcised. That prompted members of the church of Rome to ask the question,“If Abraham was seen as righteous before being circumcised, why can’t others, Gentiles, be seen as justified?” As Paul continues in his letter, he will answer that and other questions.
