The Coin Club will have a program on Hobo nickels at 1 p.m., Wednesday, June 11, in Clubhouse 3, Room 2.

The club meets on the second Wednesday of every month. In addition to programs, members can have their questions answered and their coins viewed by experts. All are welcome.

This week, the business meeting will be followed by an education session about Hobo nickels, which starts at 1:30.

Hobo nickels are engraved coins, typically U.S. Buffalo nickels minted from 1913 to 1938, that have been artistically modified, usually by carving new images into the coin’s surface. This form of hobo art began in the early 20th century and became popular during the Great Depression.

Refreshments are provided, and there will be a raffle, a 50/50 drawing, a coin auction and door prizes. Ron Guth, Rocky Herrera and/or Andy Kmita will be in attendance to view coins and answer questions. The annual membership fee is $10.
