Letters to the Editor
Editor:
My father was stationed in Kingman, Arizona; Lincoln, Nebraska; and Dyersburg, Tennessee, in 1944 and was sent to Amendola Air Force Base in Italy around November 1944. He was a waist-gunner on a B-17 and flew 35 bombing missions before returning to the U.S.
I wish to bow to, and congratulate, Mr. Alfred G. Arrieta for his amazing service to our country. I have read the article about his service three times already. What brave young men they were, both being 21 and 22 years old at the time. Thank you for your service, Mr. Arrieta. You are a very special man.

I want to add a second opinion to the recent letter by A. Clark and W. Black (May 22) commenting on speeding cars on our streets.
I’m not sure any additional speed bumps will help the problem.
At present, it is quite possible to avoid the device by simply driving through the gaps in those barriers. One can also increase speed both before and after maneuvering over them slowly.
So I’m not sure that those measures are effective in maintaining current posted speed limits.
Perhaps a set of hefty fines, over a period of time, for ignoring the posted limits would act to deter violations. Of course, that would require an increase in Seal Beach police department presence. What else would have the desired effect?

Congratulations newly elected board members! Leisure World is a non-profit, commoninterest housing development serving as an important model for later communities. The GRF has responsibilities for facilities and services such as the gates, clubhouses, and amenities for the service of all shareholders. Mutuals have different responsibilities but also operate for the service of shareholders.
A call to action has been growing in Leisure World. Shareholders have expressed dissatisfaction with trending increases in HOA fees, unusual expenses and changes that insuffi ciently included shareholders’ voices.
Shareholder petitions and comments at public meetings reveal feelings that the purpose of Leisure World, for the service of all shareholders, has been blurred. Shareholders have expressed a need for increased efficiency and effectiveness of services that are shareholdercentered. Perhaps you, too, envision affordable housing in a secure environment that endures into the future.
Shareholders have expressed a need for boards to renew their values of integrity, transparency, accountability and, the central purpose of Leisure World, service to all shareholders. Please take immediate action.
Will you ensure your duties to Leisure World are provided efficiently, effectively, rooted and sustained with the voice of shareholders, and result in an affordable and sustainable community? Or will you entertain magical thinking: election results instantly transform a director into an omniscient being, knowing all of the answers. Our elected officials have an opportunity to renew their promise to shareholders as they execute governance and service duties today and build a sustainable future for all shareholders. We are counting on you!

What does it mean to be a citizen of the United States? Certainly not the 10-12 million that bum-rushed the southern border under Joe Biden (or some shadowy figure operating the autopen). Ironically, Democrats insisted that they needed legislation to close the border and protect our sovereignty. It turns out all that was needed was a new president.
The Fourteenth Amendment (voted almost exclusively by Republicans) affirmed citizenship to previously indentured slaves and states; all persons born or naturalized in the United States, and subject to the jurisdiction thereof. Illegal aliens and tourists are under the jurisdiction of their country of origin.
The Dred Scott decision was inhumane and was voted down 7-2, led by Chief Justice Roger Teney (D) and the majority Democrat Supreme Court.
As to PBS and NPR, their CEO recently testified under oath that 87 of 87 producers in their employ were Democrats and that they consistently slanted their news to serve the confirmation bias of the radical left.
The President has removed race-based teachings associated with Critical Race Theory (a Marxist tenet) and DEI, which promoted the principles that all persons of color are victims, and all white people are oppressors. The Library of Congress and school libraries were asked to remove books that promoted (explicit sexual acts) and gender transitioning of minor children.
The American people support these initiatives by 80-20 margins.Today, for the first time in history the American people polled (Rasmussen) believe that America is on the right track.

The LW Wine Lovers Club certainly treated those of us in attendance May 19 to an incredible night of music with the club’s sponsoring of a performance of South Side Jazz. The band has five performers, each of whom sings. The music was so danceable. What a unique musical sound South Side Jazz has. What a crowd was in attendance. What a night of listening and dancing fun. Thank you LW Wine Lovers Club for your very special treat.
