LW COMMUNITY EMERGENCY RESPONSE TEAM

The LW Community Emergency Response Team (LW CERT) will hold a safety class on Friday, June 20, at 9 a.m. in Clubhouse 3, Room 9. Note that this is one week earlier than the club’s usual monthly meeting, due to the Life Expo event on June 27 (see page 3 for more information).

The LW CERT’s topic will be “How to Shelter in Place,” presented by LW CERT’s president Catherine O’Brien. Residents are reminded that in a disaster, they are On Your Own and are encouraged to have three days of food and water for each person living in the unit, including pets.

LW CERT’s free monthly safety classes are 45 minutes long and all residents are welcome to join. Refreshments are provided.

O’Brien and Vice President, Fara Q. Macartney led the May safety class about how to prepare for a power outage. Attendees learned tips of what to do and not do to protect themselves during a power outage. Special attention was paid to good preparation by having extra flashlights, extra batteries, and a plan for being safe. The fictional book “Dark State,” by Christopher J. Lynch, is a suggested read as it follows five people trying to survive in a state that loses its electrical grid due to an act of terrorism.

May’s giveaway was a refrigerator thermometer, won by Michael Rosu.
