Hui O Hula

Hui O Hula Hui O Hula

Hui O Hula, the LW Hawaiian dance club, meets twice a week on Tuesday and Thursday. Both classes meet at 1 p.m. Tuesday’s class is held on the second floor of Clubhouse 6 in the mirror room; Thursday’s class is offered at the Veterans Plaza between Clubhouse 3 and the LW Library.

All are welcome to try the hula. Learning to sway to tropical Hawaiian music and tell the stories of the songs with hand motions and facial expressions is an ideal way to spend an afternoon.

Dress comfortable and bring soft shoes or booties to class as traditional hula is done without shoes.

For class information call or text 562-338-1502 or email instructor Jojo@huiohula.com.

In class dancers enjoy the lessons and each other’s company. In the 20 years of classes, many dancers have also volunteered to perform because bringing what they have learned and sharing it with others also bring great fun and joy to themselves.

On June 24, dancers will entertain the LW Impaired Vision and Hearing Club again. Hula instructor Jojo Weingart still recalls the first time she and her dancers entertained its members 16 years ago in 2008. Since then both club have been meeting from time to time to share aloha. A deep appreciation goes to both event coordinators Kaye Huff and Phyllis Pierce.
