Pastor’s Message
Three verses in Romans 2022 is seen as one of the most pivotal passages in the Bible, giving clarity to the question of how one receives righteousness leading to eternal life from God.
The first two chapters in Romans spoke of the law as bringing knowledge of sin, but that the law was unable to bring the righteousness of God to mankind. In Romans 3:20 The apostle Paul stated, “For in his sight no one alive will be considered righteous on the ground of legalistic observance of the commands of the law, because what the law really does is show people how sinful they are.”
So, if no one is justified or saved by the law, what hope is there for mankind? The simple answer is in the next verse, Romans 3:21: “But now the righteousness of God, apart from the law, is being revealed having been witnessed by the Law and the Prophets.”
The statement “the righteousness of God apart from the law is being revealed” reveals what was happening. God, in his righteousness, was revealing that there was something apart from the law that could save the unrighteous.
Paul explains how one can be justified in the sight of a holy God in Romans 3:22, “and it is a righteousness of God, through faith in Christ Jesus, to all and on all who believe.”
The unjust are seen as just when they come to faith in Christ. Faith here means, “complete reliance on the living, resurrected Lord Jesus Christ as one’s Savior from the bondage of sin and one’s hope of eternal life in heaven.
