Casino Tournament is coming June 21 to CH 6

TOURNAMENT POKER CLUB

Those would like to play a fun and friendly game of Texas Hold ‘Em for a $5 buy-in with the Tournament Poker Club can make plans to play on Saturday, June 7. Regular tournaments are on the first three Saturdays of every month in the Clubhouse 6 Lobby and start with coffee and treats and registration at 10 a.m. Cards are in the air at 10:30.

There will be no club event on Saturday, June 14, due to a GRF event to be held in the Clubhouse 6 parking lot.

The semi-annual Casino Tournament will be held on Saturday, June 21, in the lobby of Clubhouse 6. Registration and a continental breakfast will be at 9:45 a.m., with the tournament starting at 10:30. There will be no late seating. Advanced registration is $25 for members, $30 for guests. At the door on the day of, fees are $30 for all players.

On May 17, over 60 players participated in the day’s tournament. High hand winners were Gary Fiorelli (6-6-6-6-K) and Evie Chapman with A-A-A-4-4. Richard Jones won a prize for playing and winning with the promo hand of 9-2.

As the winners of their original tables, the final table players were: Richard Jones, first place; Joseph Guglielmo, second; Stanley Fong, third; Donna Hernandez, fourth; Renato Villanueva, fifth; Ray Lim, sixth; Jeff Rolnick, seventh. Play continued at the final table until Jones and Guglielmo were head’s up. In the final hand of the match, Guglielmo was holding J-7 and Jones had A-7. The flop came 8-7-6, and Guglielmo went all in and was called by Jones. Both players had a pair of sevens, but Jones had the ace kicker. The turn was a K, which was no help to either player and the river was a 5, which didn’t help Guglielmo and gave Jones the win.

Jones has lived in Leisure World and been a member of the club for three years. This was his third final table win. Jones likes living in Leisure World and playing poker with the tournament club and several other poker groups. — Deborah Barner
