Shuffl eboard Club visits Laguna Woods for fun

E arly on a recent Monday morning, 24 sleepy Shuffleboard Club members headed south to play their favorite sport with the Laguna Woods Shuffleboard Club. The arrangement was not competitive, with each club either playing with one another or with their own members. Introductions were made, and after some socializing the group played two games. It was discovered that not every shuffleboard club does things exactly alike. The Laguna Woods club had yellow lines instead of red ones to distinguish the lanes and they kept score cumulatively. They also did not switch sides of the lane they are assigned to halfway through the games as is the custom of the Seal Beach club members. The plastic covering over the scoreboards was admired for making it much easier to erase. Despite the differences, a good time was had by all.

Upcoming dates to remember include Friday, May 30, for Last Lunch, and Saturday, June 14, at 3 p.m. at the courts for the LaCascia Tournament. This event is limited to 24 people, and there were few spots left at press time. A barbecue picnic will be held on Aug. 9 from 5-7 p.m.

May 8 Thursday afternoon league results: Team Anita and Team Kay tied 6-6. Micki Aiello was the all-game winner for Team Anita, and Eileen Kotecki and Kirk Smith won that title for Team Kay. Team Jack and Team Lynne also had a tie score 6-6. Team Jack had three all-game winners: Steve Edrich, Jack O’Brien and Zoe Pickell. Team Lynne had two all-game winners: John Mount and Diana Smith.

May 9 Friday morning

league results: Team Patti beat Team Carol 7-5. All-game winners for Team Patti were Patti Nemnich and Rod Osgood. Allgame winners for Team Carol were John Mount and Chandra Patel. Team Shel upset Team Sally 8-4. Milly Larson and Harshad Patel were all-game winners for Team Shel. Team Sally had no all-game winners.

May 13 Tuesday evening league results: Team Sally and Team Sue tied 6-6. Team Sally all-game winners were Anne Calvo and Patty Peterson. Team Sue had four all-game winners: Roger Bennett, Sue Burkschab, Susan Hopewell and John Mount. Team Harold and Team Karen tied 6-6. Team Harold’s all-game winners was Harold Morehead. Team Karen’s all-game winners were Lynne Haines and Sal LaScala.
