Copper Enameling Class
The Lapidary & Jewelry Club will offer a new class in enameling starting May 28. The class will be held from 1-3 p.m. every Wednesday for six weeks starting May 28. The class cost is $20 and all includes supplies, including copper, enamels and tools.
Enameling is the process of adding finely ground colored glass to pieces of copper which are then fired in a kiln to make colorful and lasting pieces of wearable or displayable art.
Students will learn the proper preparation of the metal and will use various application techniques including layering, stenciling, sgraffito, wet packing and more. People will learn how to use tools and to safely use the kiln to fire the pieces to make them permanent. Students from past classes have surprised themselves at the attractive and wearable pieces they end up with. The class is taught by LaVerne Christenson, who has more than 20 years of experience in the process.
Sign-up sheets are available in the Lapidary Room in Clubhouse 4. Classes are limited to four people.
