Joe Guglielmo celebrates his fi rst fi nal table win

TOURNAMENT POKER CLUB

Those who would like to play a fun and friendly game of Texas Hold ‘Em with the Tournament Poker Club for a $5 buy-in can plan to play on Saturday, May 10, in Clubhouse 6. Regular tournaments are on the first three Saturdays of every month starting at 10 a.m. Cards are in the air at 10:30. There is no late seating.

The club returned to play on May 3. After a short break at the end of April, players were glad to be back at the tables. All 56 players were ready for volunteers to “shuffle up and deal.” High hand winners were ChungHe Scharschmidt (Q-Q-Q-Q-A) and Namil Shin (J-J-J-J-Q). Scharschmidt also won the prize for playing and winning with the promo hand of 8-2.

As the winners of their original tables, the final table players were: Joe Guglielmo, first place; Wendy Wu, second; Joyce Smith, third; Marvin Rolnick, fourth; Bob Konier, fifth; Maryanne Conte, sixth; Tom Pappas, seventh. Play continued at the final table until Guglielmo and Wu were head’s up. In the final hand of the match, Guglielmo was holding A-10 and went all in before the flop. Wu, holding K-7, called. The flop came 7-A-2, giving both players a pair. The turn was a 9, and the river was a Q, neither of which changed the outcome. Guglielmo won the hand and tournament with A-A-Q-9-7.

Guglielmo has lived in Leisure World and been a member of the club for three years. This was his first final table win. Guglielmo plays poker with several groups in Leisure World and stays healthy by riding his bike and working out. He is also working as a rideshare driver. The club congratulates Guglielmo and all of the winners.
