Save the date: LW Men’s Golf Club picnic is May 28
The LW Men’s Golf Club spring picnic is scheduled for May 28 at the Clubhouse 1 picnic area. Dinner will be a barbecue.
Sixty-three golfers teed off April 23 at 7:30 a.m. at the par-54 Turtle Lake Golf Course. Each player competed for best net scores (gross score minus handicap), plus four circle holes (shots within a 5-foot radius rewarded), and two closest to the pin challenges.
With a cloudy sky and a dry course, it was anticipated that scores would be good, but only 35 of the 63 players scored net at or under par, but there was a new record of 105 birdies and a near record 15 circle holes.
Closest to the pins was Seon Kim and Bill Lyons. Lowest net score for the round was Young J. Kim at 10 under par, followed by Dennis McMonigle and Dong On Kim at 8 under, and Mike Mayfield at 7 under. Best gross score was Lyons, who shot a 6 under par round, and there were six others who shot gross under par.
Tournament statistics: Overall average gross score for all 63 players was 61.1 or seven over strokes above par. Average net scores for all teams was 52.1 or just two strokes under par.
