Start your weight loss journey with the Wa-Rite Club
Wa-Rite is a female-only club that meets on Friday mornings from 9-10 in Clubhouse 3, Room 1. Weigh-ins are from 8-8:45. Dues are $10 a year, plus 10 cents upon signing in. LW ID cards must be shown.
Women who want support on their weight-loss journey and to meet like-minded people are welcome to stop by no later than 8:15 to weigh-in and complete the registration paperwork.
On April 11, members learned that the club lost a total of 11 pounds for the week. Lisa Brass and Henrietta Peavy each lost 2 pounds, tying for the biggest loser title.
Peavy said she took time to chew her food and enjoyed a vegetable soup. Brass said she watched her portion sizes, even when out of the house, and ate plenty of fruit.
Two degreed members, Kathy Moran and Ellen Larsen, won $2 each. They were able to maintain their weight based on their goals.
Brass was also the speaker of the day. She shared interesting tips that may aid in weight loss and prolong people’s life.
• Goingtobedandwakingupatthesametimeandgetting 7-8 hours of sleep a night, which may also reduce the risk of a heart attack or stroke.
• Disconnecting from social media.
• Moving more, which could increase a lifespan by up to 5 years, or moving vigorously, if possible, for at least 5 minutes a day. Activities such as speed walking, running, going up the stairs or biking could potentially lower the blood pressure and strengthen bones and joints.
• Cutting back on processed foods such as sugary cereal, deli cold cuts and packaged baked goods, which were linked to psoriasis and other skin conditions.
• Practicing yoga and meditation to reduce stress and anxiety.
The weekly food for thought was: “I celebrate progress no matter how small it is. Every small step leads to big changes.”
