Dave LaCascia shoots his age

LW MEN'S GOLF LEAGUE

Eleven golfers from the Leisure World Men’s Golf League challenged the par-70 River View Golf Course in Santa Ana on April 12. By round’s end it was sunny and warm with clear skies and a dry course. Scores were excellent, and Dave LaCascia shot his age — a gross 79. This is the second “shot my age” accomplishment in a week for the league seniors.

LaCascia also had fewest putts for the round. Gary Stivers was closest to the pin on the 150-yard—downhill—par-3 second hole, and Sam Choi was closest on the 100-yard—all over water—ninth. Jae Choi and LaCascia had three birdies each, Jim Goltra had two, Stivers and Bob Munn had one each. Winners: (net score: gross minus handicap) A flight winners: LaCascia and Chris Lankford, 5 under par 65, first place; Jae Choi, 4 under 66, second; Clay Fischer, even par 70, third; Goltra, Stivers and Sam Choi, fourth.

B flight winners: Tom Ross, 1 under 69, first; Bill McKusky and Munn, second Liz Meripol, third.

Nine golfers, and guest Sergio, played the par-71 Meadowlark Golf Course in Huntington Beach on April 14.

Even with good playing conditions, the players overall did not shoot well and only two of the nine players shot net under par. There were six birdies: Jae Choi had two, and Clay Fischer, Larry Hillhouse, Gary Stivers and Dave LaCascia had one each. Stivers had fewest putts for the round. Stivers was also closest to the pin on the 140-yard par-3—all over water—third hole, and Dom Bautista was closest on the 150-yard par-3—into the late morning wind—15th.

Winners: Stivers, 3 under 68, first place; Chris Lankford, 2 under 69, second; Choi, third; Hillhouse, LaCascia, Fischer, Kyle Van, Bautista and Munn, fourth.

The Monday and Friday golf leagues play at four local courses, all within 15-20 minutes of Leisure World. Advance league reservations are required with a sign-up sheet available at each round.

There is a prize pool for each round that players are not obligated to enter. Those interested in playing can contact Gary Stivers at 714-313-3697 or Dave LaCascia at 801-674-5975.
