TOURNAMENT POKER CLUB

Those who would like to play a fun and friendly game of Texas Hold ‘Em for a $5 buy-in should make plans to play with the Tournament Poker Club on Saturday, April 19, in Clubhouse 6. Regular tournaments are on the first three Saturdays of every month starting at 10 a.m. Cards are in the air at 10:30. There is no late seating.

Tournament poker returned on April 5. Over 60 players made for a great time. High hand winners were Anne Wilkerson (A-A-A-K-K) and Katie Hamilton (A-A-A-7-7). Wendy Wu won a prize for playing and winning with the promo hand of 4-9.

As the winners of their original table, the final table players were: Tony Canfora, first place; Brent Covington, second; Larry Slutsky, third; Guta Basner, fourth; Anne Wilkerson, fifth; Joseph Gulielmo, sixth; Jae Jun, seventh. Play continued at the final table until Covington and Canfora were head’s up. In the final hand of the match, Covington was holding Q-Q and Canfora had J-5. The flop came J-7-3, Covington went all in and was called by Canfora. The turn was an eight, and the river was a four, giving Canfora two pair (J-J-4-4-8) leaving Covington with one pair of queens.

Canfora has lived in Leisure World for 11 years and has been a member of the poker club for 10 years. This was his fourth final table win. Canfora plays poker in several other groups and also likes golf. As the tournament director of the club, he works hard to make sure tournaments run smoothly.
