Shuffl eboard Club to play Laguna Woods May 12
The monthly Shuffleboard Club general meeting was held April 10, during which a slate of officers was presented to the membership. Voting will take place at the May 8 general meeting.
The courts will be closed in observance of Maundy Thursday, April 17, and Good Friday, April 18. Open play will continue at 9 a.m. through April and May.
In upcoming event news, the club will travel on May 12 to play Laguna Woods members. Space is limited to 24, with sign-ups at the courts. June 14 will be the Joan LaCascia Memorial Tournament. This tournament is also limited to the first 24 to sign up. A sign-up sheet is at the courts. Winners receive cash prizes. The annual picnic and membership drive will be Aug. 9. There will be smoked meat, with members bringing potluck dishes to share.
The first week of spring leagues is complete. All went well, and everyone was excited to be playing league shuffleboard again. Tuesday night results were reported in last week’s paper. Results for week one of Thursday afternoon league were: Team Jack bested Team Anita 9-3. All-game winners for Team Jack were Teri James, Steve Edrich, Carol Schubeck and Zoe Pickell. Sue Rotter was the allgame winner for Team Anita. Team Lynne outlasted Team Kay 7-5. All-game winners for Team Lynne were John Mount, Judy Hulin and sub Patty Peterson. Sal LaScala was the all-game winner for Team Kay.
In the Friday morning league, Team Sally and Team Patti’s teams tied six games each. Team Sally’s all-game winner was Sally Petterson and Team Patti’s all-game winner was Patti Nimnich. In the other match, Team Shel beat Team Carol 7-5. All-game winners for Team Carol were Carol Johnson and Rod Leebrick. Team Patti’s all-game winner was Harold Morehead.
In Tuesday night’s second week of play Team Sue took Team Harold 7-5. All-game winners for Team Sue were Sue Burkschab, Susan Hopewell and Elizabeth Martinez. Team Bob outplayed Team Karen 84. All-game winners for Team Bob were Linda Evenson, Lynn Baidack and Ellie West. The allgame winner for Team Karen was Karen Mendon.
