“It’s not just me helping the animals. It’s helping the humans too.”

Long Beach resident Dina Michelle says she has a calling for matching people with pets needing forever homes. Her nonprofit organization, Wild Branch Rescue, has matched dogs and cats of all ages and sizes to Leisure World residents.

“It’s such a special community here, it makes it a great place for animals,” Michelle said. “It seems to know which dogs pick me and then I know which person the dog should go to.”

She works with shelters all over Southern California to find the perfect pet for her clients.

LWer Terry Costa had been looking for a dog and sought out Michelle’s help. While driving back from Los Angeles, Michelle felt drawn to stop at the Gardenia shelter, finding 14-year-old Luna at the back. After contacting and sending pictures to Costa, Michelle brought the dog home and the two have been inseparable ever since.

Wild Branch Rescue is a tax deductible nonprofit organization. Residents can donate by going to the website or contacting Michelle directly.

All donations will go to cover the cost of adoption fees, veterinary bills and other essential supplies. The organization is also looking for a car donation for pet transportation.
