LW Men’s Golf League
Seven bold golfers from the Leisure World Men’s Golf League met at the par-71 Meadowlark Golf Course in Huntington Beach on March 6. This round was played in between rainstorms on a notusual Thursday due to a tournament on the normal Friday playing date.
Players included Clay Fischer, Sam Choi, Jae Choi, Jim Goltra, Fujio Norihiro, Larry Hillhouse and Duke Park. Sam Choi had fewest putts and there was just one birdie by Goltra. Best gross score was Fischer, followed by Sam Choi, Jae Choi, Goltra, Hillhouse, Norihiro and Park.
On March 21 six golfers convened to challenge the very long—and water free—Willowick Golf Course in Santa Ana. The weather was cool initially, but sunny, and the course was relatively dry. Willowick continues to renovate their tee boxes, and concrete pathways. The greens were in good condition, although mechanically scratched up this week for some reason. Fairways continue to be an issue due to heavy mole activity and random clumps of grass.
With the decent weather and fair course conditions, the golfers hammered the course, and every player scored well. Several low gross scores were posted. There were only two birdies by Jim Goltra and Clay Fischer. Fewest putts for the round was Fujio Norihiro. Closest to the pin on the 140-yard par 3 fourth hole was Sam Choi, and Goltra was closest on the 140-yard par-3 12th hole.
Winners include: Goltra, best gross score, followed by Dave LaCascia, Fischer, Sam Choi, Fujio Norihiro and Bob Munn.
The Monday and Friday Golf Leagues play at four local courses, all within 15-20 minutes of Leisure World. Advance league reservations are required with a sign-up sheet available at each round.
There is a prize pool for each round that players are not obligated to enter.
Those interested in playing can contact Gary Stivers at 714313-3697 or Dave LaCascia at 801-674-5975.
