First Christian Church

First Christian Church of Leisure World teaches from God’s word, the Holy Bible, most often verse by verse. It is a friendly church that welcomes all visitors to join in worship and explore God’s word together, “That we may be mutually encouraged by each other’s faith, both yours and mine” Romans 1:12.

Pastor’s Message

In his letter to the Romans, the apostle Paul describes his eagerness to preach the gospel. In Romans 1:16 he wrote, “For I am not ashamed of the gospel, because it is the power of God that brings salvation to everyone who believes. For in the gospel the righteousness of God is revealed, a righteousness that is by faith.”

That verse bodes the question concerning those without faith who don’t believe? Do they have an excuse for unbelief, godlessness and wickedness?

In verse 18, Paul says, “For the wrath of God is being revealed from heaven against all godlessness and wickedness of men, who suppress the truth by their wickedness.”

He went on to point out that God has made it plain to them. For since the creation of the world, God’s invisible qualities, his eternal power and divine nature have been clearly seen, being understood from what has been made, so that people are without excuse.

It is important to not look at God’s wrath or anger the way people look at man’s anger, which usually is commonly an act of hostility or revenge against someone who has wronged another person. Their wickedness and willingness to ungodliness is an act of denying God’s very existence or authority in their lives. In turn, God gives them over to their foolish heart.

In Psalm 19:1 the psalmist wrote, “The heavens declare the glory of God; and the firmament shows His handiwork.” Indeed, the heavens do declare the glory of God.

Weekend Services

Sunday services are held from 9:30-10:45 a.m. and are traditional services with hymnal music led by Janet Ray with Sherry Parmenter at the piano. Gregory Black will bring special music this week. Saturday services include contemporary songs of worship, led by Black with guitar and vocal accompaniment and are held from 9:30-10:45 a.m.

Midweek Studies

The Monday women’s Bible study, led by Melli Herrera, is held from 10:30-11:30 a.m.

Pastor Bruce Humes leads the Thursday Bible study from 10:30-11:30 a.m. and the Friday prayer and Bible study from 4-5 p.m.

All Leisure World residents are welcome to attend the above services and Bible studies.
