Redeemer Lutheran and St. Theodore

On Sunday, March 16, the congregations of Redeemer Lutheran Church and St. Theodore of Canterbury Episcopal Church will celebrate the second Sunday in Lent with Rev. Murray D. Finck, Bishop Emeritus presiding. His sermon for this week is titled “Under the Wings of God.”

The Communion and worship service gathers at 13564 St. Andrews Drive every Sunday at 10:30 a.m. This week, the congregations will be remembering Dee Sessa during the service and will hold a luncheon remembering Dee and giving thanks for her life and faith. The luncheon will be held in the Fellowship Hall and hosted by Juanita Townsend. All are welcome.

The congregations continue to collect donations of canned and boxed foods for the hungry.

The congregations will accept new members at the Holy Communion service on March 23. Those who are interested in joining in membership should contact the Church to let the pastor know, and fill out the paperwork as soon as possible.

This year, the congregations will hold Lenten reflections and suppers each Wednesday of Lent March 19 and 26, and April 2, and 9. The theme of this series is “CrossWays.” It is an exploration of the meaning of the cross from the writings of Martin Luther and will include time of discussion and sharing.

Second Sunday in Lent

The Gospel lesson for this week is from Luke 13:31-35.

The second Sunday of Lent is a foreshadowing of Jesus’ death and resurrection, “I cast out demons and I perform healings today and tomorrow, and on the third day I accomplish my purpose” (Luke 13:32).

Jesus also laments over Jerusalem. It ends with a call for all to recognize that the Lord sent him “Blessed is he who comes in the name of the Lord, (Lk. 13:35).

During this time, perhaps believers can more fully recognize who Jesus was and is and will ever be.
