Letters to the Editor

Editor:

The Musk/Trump administration, with the cooperation of the craven Republican Senate, have installed a cadre of inexperienced and unfit, to head departments.

The only qualification is loyalty to Trump; oaths to support the Constitution and tell the truth in committee hearings were just wind in the air to be forgotten as soon as they sat down.

Our democracy is well down the track to destruction. We are not forgetting the history of the 1930s. We are emulating it.

Germany had a charismatic, white supremacist with great appeal to a population with serious economic problems. Our leader, having similar personal traits, sold us that we have a bad economy.

Actual data shows the contrary. Cost of living, not the economy, is due to the eternal conflict between capital and labor.

This point in our history is favoring corporations that suppress unions and, by monopolistic pricing through the acquisition of competitors, are creating a few massive entitites.

Germany: “We will rise again” and “Deutschland uber alles”; USA: “Make America great again” (when did our greatness leave?) and “America first”; Germany: Kristal Nacht and the Reischstag fire; USA: The attack on the capitol; Hitler: A gang of thugs in brown shirts to patrol streets, dishing out violence; Trump: Releasing hundreds of convict thugs; Germany: “Mein Kampf ” for a blueprint; USA: Project 25.

The intent of the Musk/ Trump administration is to initiate a theocratic oligarchy. This incursion of evangelistic influence in the government began with Billy Graham.

I am so happy roads are going to be safer (Feb. 27). More than $5 million is going to be spent. I have a system that is not going to cost a nickel: All drivers will stop at every stop sign. What?

When we drive in LW, we never stop at stop signs. On my bicycle, that’s the largest road hazard I witness every day.

So I yell “ stop” at all the cars coming my way. It makes me feel better.

As I age, I have come to believe it is particularly important for one’s mental health to practice self sufficiency.

Toward this objective, I give myself haircuts using an electric instrument originally purchased as a beard trimmer. The gadget came with attachments such that you can fashion the beard length that meets your preferred style.

Today I neglected to apply my preferred scalp hair-length fitting.

I am now prepared for brain surgery.

Fortunately there is a secondary aging experience which diminishes the “self sufficiency” burden. My hair grows ever more slowly. It will be weeks before I need another haircut.

I want to express my sincere appreciation to the numerous residents and workers who helped to rescue my neighbor’s little Yorkie “Princess” on her 30-minute escape that took us from one end of Leisure World to the other.

Princess and her mother, Rosie Otte, were visiting when Princess indicated she needed to go out. Since we had been out shopping and didn’t have a leash with us, Rosie put her long neck scarf through Princess harness, and I offered to take Princess out to the front lawn. To make a long story short, one end of the scarf slipped through my hand and slipped out of the harness, and Princess was off and running. Thirty minutes later, with assistance from drivers, residents, GRF employees and J& J landscapers, Princess was finally corralled and captured.

Capture was due in large part to the much appreciated help from two J& J landscapers who joined in and blocked Princess with their vehicle. Between five people, we managed to surround Princess. One landscaper tried to throw a tarp to capture Princess but, as usual, she managed to dodge it.

Finally, the other J& J landscaper managed to throw his jacket over Princess, and she was captured. I don’t know what I would have done without all of these kind helpers and I am sorry I didn’t get all of their names.

Lastly, but certainly not least of these, was Patti Vienna, who I had never met before but stayed with me the whole time in our attempt to capture Princess. I am so grateful to all of you!
