“So we look not at the things which are seen, but at the things which are unseen; for the things which are visible are temporal, but the things which are invisible are everlasting and imperishable” 2 Corinthians 4:18.
What people fix their focus is important. There is no end to the distractions in today’s world that can overtake attention. It’s a constant effort to remember that there is a bigger picture. Though believers may experience hardship in this world, they know that they have a good father who has blessed them with purpose in this life, and a glorious eternity in the next.
The Message Bible, the paraphrase written by the late minister, scholar, theologian and author Dr. Eugene Peterson, expresses 2 Corinthians 4:18 like this: “So we’re not giving up. How could we! Even though on the outside it often looks like things are falling apart on us, on the inside, where God is making new life, not a day goes by without his unfolding grace. These hard times are small potatoes compared to the coming good times, the lavish celebration prepared for us. There’s far more here than meets the eye. The things we see now are here today, gone tomorrow. But the things we can’t see now will last forever.”
