Letters to the Editor
Editor:
Some of you may be experiencing “buyer’s remorse,” a phenomenon that occurs when you make a bad decision. Are you OK with the chaos from the Trump orders, many of which are illegal or unconstitutional? Are you wondering whatever happened to your good old Republican Party? Aren’t we all?
That party had members who supported the law and the legal ways of accomplishing change.
It would not have tolerated the release of legally convicted thugs who attacked and desecrated our National Capitol nor approved the nominations of people for cabinet heads whose main qualification is subservience to the president rather than loyalty to the country. Evidence of competency to manage their departments is lacking.
There are choices to make this month in the special elec-tion for State Senate District 36. Voting for one the Democrats on the ballot sends a message to the party of Trump. Think before you vote. Pat Kruger Mutual 9 Editor’s Note: The 36th Senate district became vacant after Janet Nguyen, a Republican, resigned to join the Orange County Board of Supervisors. The primary is scheduled for Feb. 25. Editor: I am writing about Earick Ward’s letter (Jan. 23). His criticism of Gov. Gavin Newsom fails because Newsom can’t be blamed for wildfires that happen on federal lands, which almost all (more than 95%) forest areas are in California. Trump did nothing for the situation, of course, even though as president he could have. Now that he’s again president, do you suppose he’ll send out the National Guard to clear the brush?
John McCay Mutual 14 Editor:
On his first day on the job, President Trump granted clemency to more than 1,500 charged with the Jan. 6 attack on the U.S. Capitol staged by the Oath Keepers, the Proud Boys, and Trump supporters. The pardoning of those criminals is troubling and unconscionable, no matter how the events of that day are described by the cult.
One rioter, a 71-year-old Boise resident nicknamed “The MAGA Granny,” rejected her pardon and said that accepting the pardon would be an insult to the Capitol police officers, to the rule of law, to our nation. Kudos to her, indeed!
The Jan. 6 rioters and lawbreakers are trying to rewrite history by saying that it was not a riot or an insurrection. That is total authoritarianism without accountability and just plain wrong. They almost killed that lady from Boise. She was saved by those brave police officers.
And President Trump is not a redeemer as some people think. He knew precisely what to say and how to sell it. We hope and pray that he is not taking our great country to a dark and ugly place.
