Earthquake preparation class is coming Feb. 28

The LW Community Emergency Response Team (LW CERT) will host a new safety class on Friday, Feb. 28, at 9 a.m. in Clubhouse 3, Room 9. The topic, earthquake preparation, will be presented by LW CERT’s president, Catherine O’Brien. Residents are encouraged to learn how to put an emergency go bag together and tailor it to specific needs.

LW CERT’s free monthly safety classes are 45 minutes long, and all residents are welcome to join. Refreshments are provided.

The January safety class on creating a family communication plan, was taught by LW CERT secretary Karen Olson and Eloy Gomez, GRF health and safety manager. Attendees learned the importance of knowing who to call in an emergency. Having both an out-of-state contact as well as a local one ensures loved ones know whether people are safe or in need of help. The giveaway item for January was a fire blanket, won by LW CERT vice president Fara Q. Macartney.
