America First Republican Club
The Trump inauguration celebration on Martin Luther King Jr. Day was held in Clubhouse 1 with over 50 people in attendance. All enjoyed three and a half hours of the televised event. Club members hosted prospective members with refreshments and a free raffle of Trump memorabilia. It was a high-energy event with many prayers for the nation and much clapping, hollering, and the making of shared memories. As a nation, we must come together and strive to find the common ground and successes for the wellbeing of the nation.
The America First Republican Club meets monthly on the third Wednesday. The club will meet on Feb. 19 at 5 p.m. in Clubhouse 3, Room 2, for a potluck. The major topic for that meeting will be the California special primary election to replace the California Senate seat vacated by Janet Nguyen when she won her Orange County supervisor race.
The State Senate District 36 special primary election ballots are to be mailed on Jan. 27. There are four candidates in this non-partisan “Jungle Primary” special election. If a candidate gets over 50% plus one vote, that candidate wins. If no one gets that amount, then there is an April run-off election between the top two candidates to determine the winner.
The club is endorsing Tony Strickland, who has led the Huntington Beach City Council with such issues as voter ID in city elections, tough on crime initiatives, and fighting Sacramento’s liberal agenda. His experience includes previously serving 10 years in the California legislature. The club believes he is the best and most qualified candidate for California Senate. The club’s mission is to educate, engage, and activate members in their duty to vote as citizens and shareholders. It focuses on national, state, county, city, and Leisure World issues and elections. It especially encourages members, as well as non-members, to participate in their own Mutuals’ and GRF’s issues and elections.
At the last meeting of Jan. 15, members planned out priorities for the year. Volunteer participation is key. Several new activities and committee assignments were suggested.
The America First Republican Club members re-emphasized that our rights of life, liberty and the pursuit of happiness do not originate from government, but from God. Integrity, transparency, and fiscal responsibility are hallmarks of good government.
