Set a weight loss course with prepping and planning
WA-RITE
Wa-Rite is a female-only club that meets on Friday mornings from 9-10 in Clubhouse 3, Room 1. Weigh-ins are from 8-8:45. Dues are $10 a year, plus 10 cents upon signing in. LW ID cards must be shown. Women who want support on their weight-loss journey and to meet like-minded people are welcome to stop by no later than 8:15 to weigh-in and complete the registration paperwork.
For the week of Jan. 10, the club lost a total of 18 pounds. Ellen Larsen was a top loser with 2.5 pounds loss. Larsen said she watched what she ate and stayed within her goal weight limit.
Jeanette Williams spoke about foods to eat on a low carb diet. She said that consuming less than 26% of total calories from carbohydrates is considered low carb. However, the meals can still be filling with the addition of lean meats, fish, eggs, leafy greens, nuts and seeds, unsweetened dairy products and low carb fruits such as apples, blueberries and strawberries. Williams said that finding alternatives to simple carbohydrates can significantly reduce calories. For example, lettuce leaves can be used in place of taco shells, spiralized zucchini instead of spaghetti and cauliflower rice in place of a white rice. She added that meal planning and keeping low carb snacks handy such as boiled eggs, unsweetened yogurts, vegetable sticks or string cheese can also help.
The weekly food for thought was: “There are no mistakes, only lessons. I’m learning every day that I’m headed in the right direction.”
