At the Jan. 9 meeting of the Photo Arts Club, President Regine Schumacher announced that the Art League is considering joint projects between it, photography, ceramics, lapidary and other arts and crafts clubs. She also asked for suggestions for future field trips.

During the photo portion of the meeting, Schumacher shared a photo of zebras printed on metal. Les Coombes showed a waterfall photo, a photo of swans and a photo of doors. He discussed techniques used in each photo.

Ben Benjamins began the program by saying the key to creating photographs (art), not snapshots, is the role of light, composition and balance.

The framing of the picture and the use of cropping to eliminate distractions from the subject of the photo is the key to really great photographs. He then showed photos of members’ submissions for the “funny/humorous” assignment, as well as photos taken by members at the Sculpture Garden on its field trip to the Cerritos Library.

The Photo Arts Club will meet Thursday, Feb. 13, in Clubhouse 3, Room 9. People should bring their iPhone/Android and/or camera. The assignment is “guess what it is.” People should send their favorite three photos to benbenjamins@hotmail.com by Feb. 10.

For more information, call Schumacher at 562-430-7078.

Siegfried "Ziggy" Romano of the Photo Arts Club holds two of the portraits he has taken at the Art League meet-andgreet event.
