Those who would like to play a fun and friendly game of Texas Hold ‘Em with the Tournament Poker Club for a $5 buy-in can play on Saturday, Jan. 18. Regular tournaments are on the first three Saturdays of every month and start with coffee and treats and registration at 10 a.m. Cards are in the air at 10:30. There is no late seating.

At the tournament on Jan. 4 a wonderful sunny day brought out about 50 players, which made for a great time for all participants win or lose. High hand winners were Lem Hall —spade royal flush—and Dennis Kotecki—J-7 spade straight flush. Larry Slutsky won a prize for playing and winning with the promo hand of 9-2.

As the winners of their original table, the final table players were: Robert Stefun, first place; Guta Basner, second; Barry Brideau, third; Roger Montero, fourth; Jae Jun, fifth; Larry Slutsky, sixth; Kathy Segroves, seventh. Play continued at the final table until Basner and Stefun were head’s up. In the final hand of the match, Basner was holding A-2 of hearts and Stefun had K-J of hearts. Stefun went all in before the flop and was called by Basner. The cards came J, 10, 6 giving Stefun the lead with a pair of jacks. The turn was a 3, and the river was a Q, which gave Stefun the win with his J-J.

Stefun has lived in Leisure World for 10 years and has been a member of the poker club for one year. This was his first final table win. Stefun is an active member of Leisure World by serving on the board of his Mutual. Coin collecting and board games are some of the other activities that he enjoys.

The club congratulates all the winners.
