Shuffl eboard Club is ready for winter leagues
To kick off the winter league of the Shuffleboard Club, there will be special Thursday morning clinics, beginning Jan. 9, from 9-11, at the courts. The four-week clinic will be hosted by co-vice president Rod Osgood, with the purpose of helping players learn and practice advanced shuffleboard strategies to boost their games. Osgood has been an active member since 2022 and has specific skills that help him perform well in every competition. The current plan is to run the clinic for the four Thursdays in January. For more information, text Osgood at 909-635-5103.
The club has many critical components that contribute to its success and its two competitive leagues. Team captains have one of the most demanding jobs to create the leagues’ successes. Captains attend all games and assess who is playing in which position for their team. Captains also must find substitutes for filling in when team members are going to be absent. Even so, for this winter season, 10 of the 11 captains from the fall leagues will repeat as a captain for the new season. All Friday morning fall league captains return for the new season: Carol Johnson, Jack O’Brien with co-captain Teri James, Patti Nemnich, Sally Fowler and Shel Magnusum. Tuesday evening winter league captains include: Harold Morehead, Karen Mendon, Bob Peterson—replacing Roger Bennett— Sally Fowler and Sue Burkschab.
Both leagues are at maximum capacity for the winter league. Yet, there are still other opportunities to play shuffleboard, including open play sessions, special clinics, and additional one day events. Watch for information in the LW Weekly. Hosted open play returns on Monday’s beginning Jan. 7. Open play is scheduled from 9-11 a.m.. Arriving 10 minutes early will help to match players.
Winter league Tuesday evening league games begin Jan. 8 at 5:30 and the Friday morning league games begin January 11 at 9. Schedules and rosters are posted in the courts building.
